about

The Obol song that almost wasn’t, the gorgeous but bitter Lover has undergone more re-writes, shelvings and unshelvings than any other Obol song. Built roughly from an old tune we played in The Exterior, early listeners ate up Lover's White Rabbit-esque swank, but the proggy elements in the solo caused tumult within the band. Now simplified and reinforced, the song is ready to for its moment to shine.

lyrics

So you want to be king of the universe. You know that's not the answer. It's just you and me, my friend. All alone with cancer. So you want to be queen of my universe. You know that's not the answer. It's just you and me, sister. All alone with laughter. Hello world, I'm calling collect, can you hear me? How is life, on the third sun satellite? Piggyback, children. Having fun, DNA and oven buns. Don't be a tool. Your life goals are just a pitri dish. Can you not... can you not see? You never know, you run on home, you'd better go and get away from me. You'll catch a cold. I'll chain your soul. Just lock yourself inside and hide from me. You never know. Go it alone. You'd better look inside and cut for me. A marriage vow. You stupid cow. You've got a life in mind that ain't for me. It's all the same. You're born and raised. To think this way. The way it's played. Or, you could wait. So here we go, so apropos. Give me your hand, I'll make you blind to see. End of the line, my valentine. We're so entwined, you'll find it hard to breathe. Where to you go to be alone? You know I always want you here. For. Me. Don't cast me out. Give in to doubt. I promise you, my lover, anything. It's all the same. You're born and raised. To think this way. The way it's played. Or, you could wait. So minuscule, all my worries are so similar. Such is life, your fear is my disease. It pulls us closer. Born to run, until the day of a blood red sore. Time is cruel, inevitable separation. Or you could wait for me. Why don't you wait for me?
